Here's How To Write Your Very Own Solo Show THIS MONTH
Take the NaSoCoShMo challenge, and write your own solo comedy show in the month of July PLUS! New very NSFW Dirty Folk Rock song for subscribers only
Have you been hoping and meaning to write a 30 or 60 minute solo comedy show but aren’t really sure how to get started?
Here’s your chance. There’s no better time than now, and by now, I mean, NOW, during the month of July 2024.
If you follow the format I’ve created in a unique, detailed comedy calendar for the month of July, available below, you will have the tools, resources and support to write a completed solo comedy show THIS MONTH.
July is a long month, meaning you have a few more days to put your pedal to the medal and write than say, February. I set it up so that you will spend about an hour a day on the various activities involved in working on a solo comedy show, including finding a venue, submitting to festivals, building your social media and of course, the most important part: WRITING THE ACTUAL SHOW.
The hour of work per day will not include any actual performing, which can take anywhere from 10 minutes if done at home in front of the bathroom mirror to several hours, depending on where the venue is and how many comedians are on the show. So, time lengths may vary, but I recommend aiming for at least an hour a day. If you have less time one day, cut out less important activities or revisit them on another day when you have more time.
I will also provide opportunities through out the course of the month to check in with other solo show writers, myself included, for accountability, to discuss issues that may arise, and to get peer support.
The calendar outlining recommended activities and assignments for each day of the month of July is below, and is available to all subscribers.
These exercises and activities will give you the encouragement and base of work necessary to write a 30 to 60 minute show.
This challenge is accessible to any monthly or yearly Museletter subscriber.
I prepared the schedule to be low enough maintenance that reconfiguration of life or day job won’t be necessary—even someone like myself, a mom of two young kiddos, working at least one full-time job, can handle the suggested schedule. In fact, I’m going to participate in NaSoCoShMo, too!
So, this is an invitation for all Museletter subscribers interested, to join me in NaSoCoShMo.
Pronounced Naaah-Sew-Co-Shmoe, the name is inspired by NaNoWriMo, which stands for National Novel Writing Month, wherein people commit to writing a full book in one month.
NaSoCoShMo stands for National Solo Comedy Show Month, wherein people will commit to writing a 30 to 60 minute solo comedy show in one month.
Here are the basic rules:
All participants must be monthly or yearly subscribers of The Museletter.
