I don’t have enough going on in my life. I have a full-time day job as a news reporter covering politics, I am married with two kids and one of them is a toddler, I write this newsletter, I perform comedy as often as I can, and I have a zillion other little things going on.

So why not add one more, I thought?

The truth is, it’s so hard for me to write new material any more.

I used to write it on the road, which I was, seemingly all the time. Hotels, bar none, are the absolutely BEST places, in my opinion, to write new jokes. There are no distractions, I was usually alone, comfortable, and for some reason, endlessly inspired.

But now, I never go anywhere, I’m usually surrounded by people, like in-laws, kids, caregiving help, friends, co-workers, etc., plus I rarely get the free time to manifest the whimsy that lends itself to rampant inspiration.

I have been needing an excuse to come up with some new material for a while now, so, enter 31 things in 31 days.

Yes, I’m going to write 31 new things in 31 new days, and I encourage you to join me. Write a song, a joke, draw a cartoon, whatever you want to do. I’m picking songs. I’m going to try to write 31 new songs. And I am so excited!
