Hi! Thanks for subscribing to my newsletter. It goes out usually 2-3 times per week, sometimes more, sometimes less. In this newsletter, I aim to share a personal slice of my perspective in the comedy scene, as a 20 year comedy veteran. This newsletter is mostly free! Some posts are for paid subscribers, only. And if you pay $7 / month, you also get hands-on comedy support. AMA, PR help, resources, and more. When I say, AMA, I mean A me AAAAAA.
What’s the highest number of comedy sets that you’ve performed in one night? For me, it’s 16.
As far as I know, I hold the record for most comedy sets performed by a female comedian in one night, and the most comedic music sets performed by a comedian in one night.
On a whim, I decided I wanted to see how many comedy sets I could do in one night. I lined up a friend to document the ordeal, and I set up a bunch of comedy sets—18 to be exact. They were spread all over the city, in at least two different boroughs, running from around 6pm until the wee hours of the morning.
I’d heard that comedian Steve Byrne had set a record with around a dozen comedy sets about a decade earlier, and I was pretty sure I could beat that.
Many, many nights I’d performed easily 6 or 7 sets, back to back, including open mics and booked spots. So, it seemed like 16 or so was realistically doable. I ended up completing 16 sets.
It just so happened, a comedian named Aaron Berg was also going to beat the record, around the same time. This was a total coincidence. We didn’t really hang in the same circles, so it wasn’t planned or cross-shared. It was just weird timing. I set and held the record of “most comedy sets performed in one night” for a few nights with 16, until Aaron beat it later that weekend with something like 21 sets.

I enjoy personal challenges like this. For one thing, they help you learn about your capabilities and how much you can do, how far you can go. This builds confidence and pride. Additionally, challenges like this can build “heat” — how others perceive your work. It also adds to your legend, which is a big part of life and living.
How many comedy sets do you think you could pull off in one night?
