What is your comedy goal — for this week, for this month, for this year?
It often surprises me that so many people I talk to have no idea what I even mean when I ask them, “So, what do you want?”
What I’m asking is, what do you hope to achieve? What is your goal? What is your plan?
Most people respond with something along the lines of either, “Well, I haven’t really thought about it” or “I want to be a famous comedian.”
Cool, cool, but neither of those answers is a viable way forward; neither is a plan.
Since being a comedian is essentially running a business, every comedian needs at the very most, a business plan, and at the very least, to concoct a series of basic goals to move themselves along from point a, I’m writing a joke, to point z, I’m now a famous comedian (or whatever the end goal is).
