Are You Doing The Same Things In Comedy This Year That You’ve Been Doing For A While?
If so, maybe it’s time to try something new.
I’m not only talking to you, reader, I’m also talking to myself here, as I often am when I write these posts.
The beginning of the new year is a great time to re-evaluate what you did last year, maybe what you’ve been doing for a long time, and ask yourself, is it time for a change?
Last year, after many, many years as a brunette, I went blond. It took a lot longer than I expected, it was hard (Yes! It was actually very difficult—and painful!), and it was a lot more expensive than I thought it’d be. But now I’m blond, and it feels different and exciting and rejuvenating. I don’t know if I’ll ever be brunette again.
I feel similarly about my comedy. I performed songs for a long time. But this year, I’m writing my first solo hour of stand-up only material ever, and I’m really excited to try something totally new and different. It’s rejuvenating, exciting and refreshing to my spirit.
I’m not doing a new year’s resolutions, I’m seeking a year of rejuvenation.
What, if anything, do you hope to try differently this year? Tell me in the comments, if you are brave enough to put it out there. I bet you are.
Today’s inspo:
I haven’t seen Zach Broussard’s Top 1000 comedian’s list for 2023 yet, but here’s the list from 2022. How many names do you recognize?
RIP Shecky Greene (and Tom Smothers)
Lizz Winstead is cool!
