As a person who grew up in a small town, beauty and fashion weren’t super high on my list of priorities. In fact, I never even really considered my physical appearance until I was about age 15, and an older boy pulled over his car and got out to walk over to me and ask me out on a date.

Of course, I had my favorite outfits and clothing items to wear (acid washed jeans, things that weren’t stained) but I didn’t really spend a lot of time on hair and make up, the way some of my peers did. I just didn’t see the point.

But once I got into college, it started seeming a little bit more important for some reason (can anyone say late bloomer?).

As I have written about in previous posts, I did have a stint for a few years where I go go danced in college, and that was another eye opener in terms of caring about the way I dressed and did my hair. I have zero regrets about go go dancing; I never had so much money and confidence in my life. I only wished I’d invested my dresser drawers full of stacks of money a little more wisely!
