Meet the Unofficial U.S. Comedy Laureate
"Poets have their laureates. Novelists get their prizes. Even clowns get tiny cars."
Jessica Delfino Declares Herself Unofficial U.S. Comedy Laureate–Because Comedy Deserves One
New York, NY – There’s no official U.S. Comedy Laureate, so she took the title herself.
In a bold and completely unofficial move, comedian, musician, and all-around troublemaker Jessica Delfino volunteered to fill a glaring void in the comedy world—by proclaiming herself the Unofficial Comedy Laureate.
With two decades of experience in stand-up, musical comedy, and pushing boundaries, Delfino has long been a fixture in the comedy scene. Her work has been featured on Comedy Central, in The New York Times, and ABC’s Good Morning America, and she’s shared stages with comedy legends. But despite her contributions to the art form, there remains no official comedy laureate—so she figured, why wait?
“Poets have their laureates. Novelists get their prizes. Even clowns get tiny cars,” said Delfino. “So I decided it was time someone took a stand for stand-up. And that someone is me.”
As the Unofficial Comedy Laureate, Delfino will continue doing what she does best: making people laugh, writing songs about taboo topics, and reminding the world that comedy is an art form worthy of recognition. She also encourages others to declare themselves unofficial laureates in their own right—plumber laureate? Why not. Because if history has taught us anything, it’s that the best titles are self-appointed.
