My Appearance On Good Morning America
Here's how I got to perform stand-up comedy on Good Morning America
I was a new comedian when I landed a, dare I say—dream gig?—on Good Morning America. I heard about a contest being held by ABC in Times Square called Make Us Laugh All Night Long, where stand-up comedians were doing short sets in front of a live audience literally all night long. I made my way to midtown, and signed up to perform somewhere around 7am. Around 8am, I performed. Around 8:15am, Al Roker was telling me I’d made the cut and would be one of the five performers on Good Morning America the next day.
I went home to freak out a little bit. My instructions were that I would be picked up by car at 5am at my house, and shuttled to the Good Morning America studios. At the time, I lived in Greenpoint, in a kind of desolate area. I went outside and stood by the street, by myself in the dark, and waited for the car to arrive. I was scared, but also very excited to be on T.V.
Just around 5am, sure enough, a black car pulled up and I got in. I can’t describe the flood of emotions that were washing over me. I went over my jokes in the dark of the back seat and hoped I’d make it to the studio and that I hadn’t just gotten into some random car.
