Real Comedians of The Poconos: John Grier [FREE POST]
You heard about John Grier here first, folks
I was introduced to comedian John Grier by a mutual friend who is a local business owner and member of the press. He thought we might be able to collaborate, and he was correct! John and I have gone on to perform on several of each other’s shows since then and have had some great conversations about stand up.
John operates Grierfest Comedy Show with the help of his brother, which takes place monthly at Sherman Showcase in Stroudsburg, PA and beyond. It’s a great and always packed show featuring local, skilled comedians and also visiting headliners from out of town. The cozy room is perfect for comedy.
One show that I have produced a few times in the area is a “Mommy and me” comedy show and meet up, which I invited John to perform on. It takes place at a children’s play center type venue, and starts at 10am, with breakfast included in the ticket price. The result is typically a nice group of parents who want to do adult things like attend comedy shows and meet other grown ups, but they have kids now and are usually ready for bed around 8:30pm, because raising children (especially babies) is exhausting. John came to perform in the show and brought his daughter, Amelia, who tried comedy for the first time at age 9. She was so fun and entertaining to watch! Will there one day be a “daddy and me” comedy duo?
Hey wait a minute, who is this write up supposed to be about, anyway? Back to John.
John’s comedy style is observational, mostly clean, I’m going to say mostly male oriented, and easy to laugh at and with. He never disappoints. His attitude is A for awesome. He always shows up with a smile on his face and is ready to help. Even when he is booked just as a performer and not the show’s producer, he carries gear necessary for a show (think additional mics, cords, notebooks and hoodies?, etc.) in case anything might be needed at the show in a pinch. He is always working on and trying out new material, and takes the funny business of comedy very seriously. Audiences and other comedians like being around John both on and off stage. As a result, he has learned to produce great shows, and has befriended superb talent.
