Hey there, dirty folkers! (From time to time I try out new “group names.” I am playing around with this one for the time being, inspired by my decades as a dirty folk rock musician. What do you think?) This blog is all about comedy, and the goal is provide a place where comedians can go to ask for help. Treat this as your comedy clubhouse, coaching center, etc. Ask questions, share information, learn the truth. You can join for $7 per month, and for free, as well. Paid subscribers get hands on help, but truth be told, I really never turn anyone away who asks for help. I appreciate the support as we forge through this crazy comedy life together.
I just want to start by saying, this is not a paid advertisement. I am just wholly impressed by what these comedians have built.
I love a good true crime show or podcast, and clearly, I’m not alone.
About 34% of people listen to true crime podcasts, according to an ABC poll. Most of those listeners are women. Because, I surmise, we’re hoping to learn something that could maybe just save our lives.
The comedians who host this podcast are Karen Kilgariff and Georgia Hardstack.
If you’re not familiar with Kilgariff, she was on Mr. Show back in the 90s, and later became a writer for some TV shows of note. In 2016, she started co-hosting the true crime podcast, My Favorite Murder, and garnered a following of some 16 million listeners. She started a podcast network called Exactly Right a couple years later that hosts some of your favorite comedy podcasts.
Georgia Hardstack is also an interesting character with a unique backstory. Fun fact: we share a birthday.
The thing that I really love about these two is that they followed a side interest they had (true crime) and used it to build a huge following and forge a path that changed their lives.
What is your side hustle? Have you ever tried to see how it can fit into your comedy? Want to brainstorm on it? Give me a shout.
