Anytime is a good time for live comedy, but there is certainly a window where live comedy bookings tend to boom for many comedians. It may depend on where you are located in the world, or how your seasonal clock operates. Maybe you have young kids, and summers are spent vacationing and dedicated to family obligations, so you can do more gigs in the winter. Whatever your calendar looks like, anytime is a good time to nurture your schedule and plan for the following year.
I get major energy flow in the summer, and from about April through September, I aim to keep my weekends nearly fully booked with shows and engagements. (Is it because I’m a June baby / Gemini?) In October, things tend to slow down, except for major holiday-related events around Halloween and Christmas / New Years. In the winter, I hibernate, like the mighty bear, and eat a variety of mostly chocolate things.
The summer festivals, of which there are many, also tend to bloom and blossom through the spring and fall. Whether it’s the Jersey City Comedy Festival in June in none other than the great state of New Jersey, or the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in August, there are dozens of comedy, film, and community events through the summertime that every comedian should take advantage of. Here are just a few:
Garden parties
Drive through opening acts
Campground entertainment
Resort comedians
Retreat relief
Pride parade bookings
Film festivals
Street performers
Boardwalk buskers
Emcees at church bazaars
… and more

Spreadsheets aren’t for everyone. But I made one for everyone—everyone who subscribes to The Museletter, that is.

The Time I Roasted Ricky Schroder On The Eve Of My Wedding: 3 Takeaways
The year was 2013, and I was somehow invited to the Friar’s Club to roast Ricky Schroder. Don’t ask me how it happened, I barely remember, which leads me to my first takeaway, and something I want to spend a lot more time writing about in this newsletter:
